Cooling stations throughout Clark County this weekend
Friday, July 31, 2015Public Health and emergency management officials urge residents to protect themselves from heat during the forecasted hot spell, when regional temperatures are predicted to hit and exeed 100 degrees. Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency (CRESA) has contacted community partners to set up cooling centers. The public is invited to escape the heat in the following locations:
Firstenburg Community Center, 700 N.E. 136th Ave.
Marshall/Luepke Community Center, 1009 McLoughlin Blvd.
Vancouver Public Works’ Water Resources Education Center
Washougal municipal complex, 1701 C St., Washougal
There are other air-conditioned options around Vancouver and Clark County, too, including restaurants, theaters and shops, as well as Fort Vancouver Regional Library District locations, and the Camas Public Library.
Visually impaired paddlers compete in regional dragon boat championships this weekend
Friday, July 31, 2015A visually impaired paddler (VIP) division will be contested at the Western Regional Dragon Boat races at Vancouver Lake Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 2. Blind Start from Long Beach, CA will compete against Portland team Wasabi VIP. They are competing for a berth in the 2016 World Dragon Boat Championships in Australia. Another Portland team, Blind Ambition, will compete as a festival team.
