Honorary Sheriff Cole visits Clark/Skamania Regional K-9 Unit

On January 29, Honorary Sheriff Cole Merle was invited to the Clark/Skamania Regional K-9 Unit training day at the Public Safety Complex in Ridgefield. Sheriff Cole got to witness the K-9’s as they trained to apprehend suspects that were non-compliant, as well as drug detection. Sheriff Cole arrived with his “Posse” of family members and friends to see Clark County’s Master Trainer Deputy Ellithorpe explain the role of K-9 in modern law enforcement. Cole was sworn in as Honorary Sheriff earlier this month. The honor is handed out to children undergoing serious medical treatment. Cole was diagnosed with Stage IV Wilm’s Tumor in September 2011.

The Hough Foundation has announced new board members and officers. John Laughlin, director of sales, Stein Distributing Inc., has been elected as Board Chair. Ted Gathe, City of Vancouver, has been elected Vice Chair. Robin Bradford, Realvest Corp, continues as Secretary/Treasurer. Paul Christensen, founder of the Hough Foundation and owner of Realvest Corp., has been elected to serve as Development Chair for the Board of Directors.

Home Foreclosure Prevention and Information seminar for Clark County homeowners

Clark County Volunteer Lawyers Program’s Home Foreclosure Project is hosting a free Home Foreclosure Prevention and Information seminar. Those at risk of falling behind on their mortgage payments or are already facing foreclosure, attend this seminar to learn your rights, options, and alternatives to foreclosure. The foreclosure process and timelines are explained and homeowners are provided with information about accessing free legal services. This free seminar is hosted bi-monthly, on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday every month from 6 to 7 p.m. at the CCVLP offices at 1409 Franklin St., Ste. 101, Vancouver. County seeks development professional for advisory group

The Board of County Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Development and Engineering Advisory Board (DEAB). The opening is for an at-large member professionally associated with development work for a two-year term beginning in April. The advisory board reviews policy and code changes, and works with Community Development and Public Works on process improvements and fee issues. The panel consists of nine members: three private-sector planners or engineers; one construction contractor; one public sector planner or engineer; one land developer; one Building Industry Association representative; and two professionals associated with development. Anyone interested in serving should submit a letter of interest and resume to Jennifer Clark, Commissioners’ Office, P.O. Box 5000, Vancouver, WA 98666-5000. Commissioners also will accept applications by email to jennifer.clark@clark.wa.gov or fax to 360-397-6058. Deadline is 5 p.m. Feb. 14.
