Third annual Jordan Crouch Memorial Walk/Run July 14

Friday, June 29, 2012

Jordan Crouch

The third annual Jordan Crouch Memorial 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, July 14. The race begins and ends at Marine Park on Vancouver’s waterfront. Participants will receive goodie bags, snacks, beverages, and t-shirts. An official timer and photographers will document the event. All proceeds will go to the scholarship endowment established in Jordan’s memory at Seattle Pacific University.

Crouch graduated from Skyview High School and Seattle Pacific University. His aspiration to establish a foundation to help students who need financial assistance was cut short when he passed away two years ago. The Jordan L. Crouch Scholarship Endowment was established to carry on what he started.

Online registration is available here. The cost for those who register by July 4 is $25. Registration after July 4 is an additional $10. Race day registration is $40. Check-in and registration begin at 8 a.m., and the race begins at 9 a.m. The race includes awards and medals, door prizes, and refreshments. Friday, June 29, 2012

The vacant Amboy Middle School.

The vacant Amboy School, which was replaced in 2008 after serving northeast Clark County children for six decades, will be burned in a firefighters’ training exercise tomorrow, June 30. The 29,951-square-foot structure at State Highway 503 and Chelatchie Rd. opened in 1947 as a kindergarten-through-eighth grade school and later became a middle school.

Fire District 10, which serves Amboy, will burn the structure beginning about 9 a.m. Battalion Chief Gordon Brooks notes that it could be about noon before the building is fully ablaze. Fire District 10 and Cowlitz-Skamania Fire District 7 have been conducting training exercises in the building twice a week since early April. Local police agencies have also used the structure for training, including the Portland Bomb Squad. After the building is burned, bricks will be offered to the public for free; the time of the brick give-away will be available at www.battlegroundps.org or by calling 360-885-6527.
