Vancouver’s summer outdoor movie season kicks off with “Despicable Me”

The City of Vancouver’s summer outdoor movie season starts this week, featuring a selection of action-packed, dramatic, and comedic films chosen to entertain the whole family. Presented by the Port of Portland, movies are shown each Friday in July with support from The Columbian.

The season’s premiere movie is Despicable Me, and will be shown at Esther Short Park at 610 Esther St. in downtown Vancouver on Friday, July 1. Movies will also be shown at LeRoy Hagen Memorial Community Park in east Vancouver at 136th and 9th Streets. The movies are free and everyone is welcome. All shows begin as soon as it is dark enough to see an image onscreen, about 8:45 to 9 p.m. Vendors will be on site at 6 p.m. with popcorn, light dinner options, and sweet treats. Seating is first come, first served; guests should bring their own blankets and chairs. If special accommodations are needed, call 360-487-7060. For a complete schedule, go to www.cityofvancouver.us/events, or call 360-487-8631.
