Ridgefield STEM teacher wins $5,000 grant from CenturyLink

CenturyLink awarded Tylor Hankins, a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) teacher at View Ridge Middle School, a $5,000 grant through the company’s Teachers & Technology grant program at a regular school board meeting this week. Hankins intends to use the grant funds to purchase three-dimensional printers for use in the middle school’s STEM classes. “The students could use the printers to create their parts for class projects,” says Hankins. “For instance, students could print their own gears for our recent dragster-racing project.” Since 2007, CenturyLink’s grant program awarded a total of $550,000 in grant funds across to 92 recipients; $110,000 in grants awarded to 22 teachers this year alone.
