Old Amboy School to be used as firefighter training site tomorrow
Posted June 29, 2012The vacant Amboy School, which was replaced in 2008 after serving northeast Clark County children for six decades, will be burned in a firefighters’ training exercise tomorrow, June 30. The 29,951-square-foot structure at State Highway 503 and Chelatchie Rd. opened in 1947 as a kindergarten-through-eighth grade school and later became a middle school.
Fire District 10, which serves Amboy, will burn the structure beginning about 9 a.m. Battalion Chief Gordon Brooks notes that it could be about noon before the building is fully ablaze. Fire District 10 and Cowlitz-Skamania Fire District 7 have been conducting training exercises in the building twice a week since early April. Local police agencies have also used the structure for training, including the Portland Bomb Squad. After the building is burned, bricks will be offered to the public for free; the time of the brick give-away will be available at www.battlegroundps.org or by calling 360-885-6527.
