New art in Washougal, unveiling Aug. 5
Posted July 31, 2017Washougal Arts and Culture Alliance (WACA) invites the community to welcome the newest addition of Washougal’s public art on Saturday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m., at the Washougal Police Station, 1320 A St. “Forever Faithful” is a life-size bronze sculpture of a Belgain Malinois, a common breed of police service dog, that sits watchful and majestic atop a basalt column just outside the station entrance.
Prominent bronze sculptor Susan Bahary created the piece and will be at the ceremony to speak about the sculpture and her process. Bahary is internationally acclaimed for her inspiring sculptures honoring the animal/human bond and service animals.
The Washougal sculpture is a replica casting of the original “Forever Faithful,” which is part of the Enduring Valor Monument at Cedar Hill Pet Cemetery in Texas. The Discover Washougal Art Map, created by WACA, is a handy guide to find the growing number of works installed throughout town. The map can be found at www.washougalarts.org.
