KGW was named Television Station of the Year by the Oregon Association of Broadcasters at its annual conference held Saturday, Sept. 27. The station has earned the title for 11 of the last 12 years. The prestigious award recognizes outstanding journalism and public service throughout the entire year. KGW.com was recognized as best television website.

KGW earned eight other “Awards of Excellence” for its journalism both on air and online, more than any other Portland television station. All areas of the station’s work earned awards including best coverage of breaking news, best documentary, photography, public service announcement and best public service campaign.

Additionally, The Oregon Association of Broadcasters has awarded its prestigious Broadcast Heritage Award to KGW broadcast operator, Dale Wakem. The award honors an individual who is currently employed or has worked in the radio and/or television industry in Oregon in a role other than general management or ownership for a minimum of 15 years. Wakem far exceeds the threshold for the award. He will celebrate 50 years of employment at KGW in November 2014, the only employee to reach that milestone in the station’s history.
