The City of Camas has announced that Forest Home Road is expected to be closed for a number of months until repairs can be made in order for it to be safe for travel. During the early December heavy rain events, a significant slide occurred approximately 1,500 feet east of NW Astor Street. It is on the south side of Forest Home Road and is not visible when riding in a vehicle, so people going around the current barricades may not realize that it is unsafe. The slide has undercut the road in the eastbound (downhill) lane and the City will be installing permanent barricades to ensure the road is not used until it is repaired. Unfortunately, the repair is not an easy one and will take a major project in which the City will need to obtain funding, complete geotechnical investigations, complete full design and hire a contractor to complete the repair work. The earliest timeframe that construction might begin is summer
2016.
