No-cost computer programming training available
Thursday, August 31, 2017 Individuals who have been out of work for more than six months and those that are underemployed may qualify for free computer programming training through WorkSource. Between now and Sept. 20, WorkSource is hosting orientations every Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m. to meet with job seekers interested in learning more about the basic programming training that will give them a foundation for growth as a programmer or web developer. The orientations will be held at WorkSource, 204 SE Stonemill Dr., Ste. 215, in Vancouver. The one-week computer training in Practical Applications of Computer Science and Python Programming will take place at WorkSource in Vancouver Sept. 25 through 29. First day of school zone enforcement nets multiple citations
Thursday, August 31, 2017On Aug. 30, Vancouver Police conducted school zone enforcement for the first day of school in the Vancouver and Evergreen school districts. Four officers worked various schools zones in both the morning and afternoon. Here are the results of that enforcement effort:
- Twenty speeding in school zone citations
- Five warnings/speed
- Six citations for suspended drivers
- Six other miscellaneous traffic violations
- One felony warrant arrest

Battle Ground joins Clark County Connect’s Day of Service Sept. 9
Thursday, August 31, 2017Battle Ground is joining Clark County Connects’ annual Day of Service on Saturday, Sept. 9. This is the second year of Battle Ground’s participation in the annual county-wide effort. The Battle Ground work party, organized by the city’s Parks & Recreation Department, is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will be caring for public places by cleaning up litter, raking and weeding flower beds, and spreading bark chips at two locations: Kiwanis Park, 422 SW Second Ave. and at City Hall, 109 SW First St. Individuals, families and groups are welcome and encouraged to participate. CRESA launches annual preparedness challenge today
Thursday, August 31, 2017September is National Preparedness Month, which means that public safety agencies are busy working on a number of events to ensure that their communities are educated, informed and ready to face any type of crisis situation. This year’s national theme is “Disasters Don’t Plan Ahead … You Can!” CRESA will help the community take action with the launch of its eighth annual online social media game, 30 Days, 30 Ways Preparedness Challenge beginning today, Friday, Sept. 1.
