RTC holds regular meeting June 6
Wednesday, May 31, 2017The next Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council (RTC) Board of Directors meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, in the Sixth Floor Training Room of the Clark County Public Service Center, 1200 Franklin St. in Vancouver. The Craft Beer and Wine Fest June 9 through 11
Wednesday, May 31, 2017The Craft Beer and Wine Fest’s giant fifth anniversary party is June 9 through 11. Organizers Sherie Szubski and Rusty Hoyle have lined up the best Washington state craft wines, craft brews, craft cocktails and craft bourbon tastings. The party will be at Esther Short Park, and is the only alcohol event in the park until August.
The festival showcases local, family-owned wineries and craft breweries. About half of the wineries are from right here in Clark County, the rest are from Walla Walla, Yakima, Woodinville and the Columbia Gorge. Additionally, there are 50+ Pacific Northwest craft brews on tap, not to mention Washington State craft bourbon, and this year’s new craft cocktail menu. Live music performances are scheduled all day every day.
Tickets are $25 and include admission all three days, all of the concerts, a collectible tasting glass and 10 tasting tickets (more of which you can buy at $1 each). Diane Schuur performs with Bravo! Northwest June 4

Northwest presents a concert by Grammy Award-winning vocalist and pianist Diane Schuur on Sunday, June 4, at 3 p.m. The concert takes place at Vancouver First United Methodist Church, 400 E 33rd St. Schuur is known as “The First Lady of Jazz,” and was here for the first Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival in 1998. Her musical collaborators have included Barry Manilow, B.B. King, The Count Basie Orchestra, Ray Charles, and Jose Feliciano, among countless others. Tickets are $30. WSU Vancouver receives $2 million gift, first endowed chair
Wednesday, May 31, 2017Hospitality Business Management in the Carson College of Business at Washington State University Vancouver. This is the university’s first endowed chair. The gift honors the late Tod McClaskey, founder of Red Lion Inn Hotels, and his wife, Maxine. The Vancouver program offers a bachelor’s degree in hospitality business management. Students may also minor in hospitality business management or take classes to complement other degrees. All of the program’s graduates to date are employed in the hospitality industry, typically in leadership positions.
