The American Red Cross is partnering with 9/11 Day of Service to offer individuals a chance to help others and commemorate the events of Sept. 11 by giving blood or platelets or volunteering their time with the Red Cross. Launched in 2002, 9/11 Day has evolved into the largest annual day of charitable engagement in the U.S. and was designated as a National Day of Service and Remembrance by the U.S. Congress in 2009. Each year tens of millions of people observe the day by performing acts of service and good deeds.

“This annual observance increasingly resonates with people with each passing year, for the benefit of countless people and communities in need, and that’s surely gratifying,” says Jay S. Winuk, co-founder of 9/11 Day. “Those who participate are making a real difference. The Red Cross is an ideal partner to engage people to step forward, and we’re confident that blood donors, volunteers and organizations will answer this call for help while honoring the heroes of 9/11.”

Blood donors of all types – especially those with types AB, O negative, A negative and B negative – and platelet donors are encouraged to give. Type O negative is the universal blood type that can be transfused to patients of any blood type. It is often used to treat trauma patients and is always in demand by hospitals.

Those who would like to observe the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance by donating blood or platelets are encouraged to make an appointment. For more information and donation locations, visit www.redcrossblood.org/donation-centers/pnw.

The community is welcome to join the Silver Buckle Ranch for a great evening featuring a BBQ, auction, and music by the Jessie Leigh Band. “Boots & Bites” is set for Saturday, Sept. 12, from 5 to 9 p.m. Silver Buckle Ranch is located at 11611 NE 152nd Ave. in Brush Prairie.

In the process, they learn respect for selves and others, self-confidence, the value of achieving personal goals, and responsibility–all while having fun in a safe ranch setting.

All of the evening’s proceeds will  benefit ranch programs and activities. Tickets are $30 per person if purchased on or before Friday, Sept. 4 and $35 afterward. Tables for eight are also available. Magenta Theater and Artistic Director Jaynie Roberts announce that Magenta will be leaving its current location at the conclusion of its 13th Season in December 2015. It will debut its 2016 Season in a new location: 1108 Main Street in Vancouver. Magenta’s final show in its current space will be The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, directed by Amanda Goff and running November 19 through December 19, 2015.

“Magenta has been at 6th and Main since January 2009 and this space has been very good for us,” says Roberts, “but real estate developments in our building and on the block surrounding the theater, coupled with the necessity to expand to meet growing audience demand, prompted our search for a new home for Magenta.”

The new location, in the heart of the Vancouver Arts District next to upscale restaurants and shops, features seating for up to 150 (current location houses a maximum of 101 seats) all with excellent sight lines to the stage and more leg room. The main stage will be 100% larger, creating expanded opportunities for main stage shows and performances, and a new, spacious lobby will provide an inviting area for audiences to gather, and enjoy beer and wine if desired.
