Efforts underway for major repair of damaged waterfront trail

Monday, June 30, 2014

watefronttrailEfforts are underway for a major repair of the damaged section of Vancouver’s Waterfront Renaissance Trail in the Tidewater Cove area this fall. In the spring of 2011, two sections were damaged by snow melt and heavy rain; while erosion has continued to tear away the trail’s foundation. The work is proposed to be done in two sections with an engineering estimate for construction of about $1.4 million. Construction would start in September during the low-water period and be finished by November, with the total project wrapped up about January 2015. Due to safety concerns, the trail will continue to remain closed in the Tidewater Cove area until all sections of the trail are repaired. Those wanting to reach Wintler Park will continue to be safely detoured along Columbia Way until all necessary repairs are completed.
