Washington Green Schools honors Image Elementary with Level 5 certification May 9

Washington Green Schools will honor Image Elementary with a Level 5 certification at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 9, at the school, located at 4400 NE 122 Ave. in Vancouver. Clark County representatives will be on hand along with staff from Washington Green Schools.

The Washington Green Schools program provides a certification framework, educational resources, and tools for all public and private K-12 schools to create greener, healthier schools. Students and school leaders engage in experiences that strengthen essential skills and build understanding of environmental systems.

More than 270 Washington state schools are participating and approximately 100 have certified in one or more environmental categories since the program began in 2009. Schools assess and take action on campus in the areas of energy, healthy school buildings, transportation, school grounds and gardens, waste and recycling, and water. Visit New Seasons this afternoon, May 1, from 4 to 7 p.m., for its monthly community event. This month features over 20 vendors and staff offering tasty samples, including wine from the Rogue Valley’s RoxyAnn Winery, and fresh baked cookies from Simply Divine Cookies. Families will enjoy a petting zoo, featuring baby chicks and bunnies from Botany Bay Farms and lambs from Reister Farms. 10th anniversary celebration of the Friendship Center this evening

Friends of the Carpenter (FOC) will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Friendship Center, this Wednesday, Apr. 30, at 7 p.m. The event also celebrates FOC’s annual volunteer recognition. First official reception of the year for First Friday in downtown Vancouver May 2

Those who plan to attend the next First Friday Artwalk, on May 2, are invited the first official reception of the year. Pacific Continental Bank will host the event in the Vancouver Marketplace Courtyard, 210 W Evergreen Blvd. from 5 to 7 p.m. Appetizers and wine will be offered and copies of May’s Hot Sheet will be available.

A first stop following the reception might be at Art on the Boulevard, where they continue their current show with Oleg Ulitskiy. “New Works” is a collection of his latest stunning oil paintings. From paintings of boats, to still life’s, to the many beautiful scenes of the Pacific Northwest, this show will feature the wide variety of subject matter that Ulitskie enjoys painting. The gallery will also feature new paintings by Harry Wheeler and Eric Jacobsen and also a new series of high fired pottery pieces by DJ Miles.
