WSU Vancouver “Scholarships 101 Information Night” Jan. 8
Monday, December 30, 2013WSU Vancouver presents Scholarships 101 Information Night for students interested in learning how scholarships can help them pay for college. The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, in the Dengerink Administration Building, Room 110. It’s free and open to everyone, no matter which college or university you plan to attend. Attendees will learn where to find the best scholarships, how to write award-winning essays and get helpful tips from prior award winners. Grass Valley Elementary earns 2013 School of Distintion Award
Monday, December 30, 2013Outstanding improvement in student achievement over five years led to a special honor for Grass Valley Elementary this fall: the 2013 School of Distinction Award. This is the second year in a row the school has earned this honor; only 20 elementary schools from a pool of more than 2,000 hold this distinction.
“This is a testament to the work and learning accomplished by the staff, students, and community of Grass Valley,” says Principal Sean McMillan. “We are excited to be recognized for our work and continuous improvement.”
The 2013 School of Distinction award winners include 55 elementary schools, 24 middle/junior high schools, and 23 high schools. This is the seventh annual School of Distinction award recognition in Washington State. The awards were created in 2007 to recognize the highest improving schools in Washington State.
Leadership Clark County accepting early applications for Class of 2015

Candidates submitting applications prior to February 14 will receive a $50 discount off the $100 application fee and priority consideration for acceptance into the program. “Swinging in the New Year’s Eve” dance Dec. 31
Monday, December 30, 2013Local seniors ages “50 and Better” are invited to kick off the New Year in style at the fifth annual “Swinging in the New Year’s Eve” dance Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Luepke Senior Center, 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd. Guests will enjoy an evening of dancing, light refreshments, party favors, sparkling cider and a special New Year’s toast. Live music will be provided by Beacock’s New Horizon Dance Band. Tickets are $13 per person.
