“Stuff the Bus” drive for North County Food Bank at two locations this Saturday
Tuesday, April 30, 2013The public is being asked to help fill two school buses with nonperishable food, paper products and personal hygiene items during a “Stuff the Bus” collection for the North County Food Bank this Saturday, May 4, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Items can be dropped off at school buses in the parking lots of Battle Ground Albertsons, 2108 W. Main St. or Fred Meyer, 401 NW 12th St. This annual event is sponsored by the Battle Ground Public School Employees union (BGSE) “to give back to our community families.” Partnering with the BGSE in this drive are Cascade Student Transportation, which is the Battle Ground School District’s contract bus company, River HomeLink parents and students and the two stores. Last year, the effort yielded 5,445 pounds of goods.
Main Street Program presentation at Battle Ground City Council workshop May 6
Tuesday, April 30, 2013Anyone who is interested in the growth and vitality of Old Town Battle Ground is invited to attend a City Council workshop Monday, May 6, from 6 to 7 p.m., in the Battle Ground City Council Chambers, 109 SW 1st St. Members of the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce will present information about the Washington Main Street Program and discuss how a local program could develop in Battle Ground. Main Street Program is a method for revitalizing historic downtowns, fostering economic growth and increasing community use and pride. The Washington State Main Street Program follows the guidelines of the National Main Street Program and is a part of the Washington Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation. Two 2012 Washington Achievement Awards for Woodland Schools
Tuesday, April 30, 2013Woodland High School (WHS) and Woodland Intermediate School (WIS) are recipients of 2012 Washington Achievement Awards; WHS for the second consecutive year. WHS is being honored for “Overall Excellence” and “Extended Graduation Rate” and Woodland Intermediate is being honored for “Science.” The Washington Achievement Awards are sponsored by the Washington State Board of Education and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. “Jazzin’ it Up” dinner and auction for Daybreak Youth Services May 4
Tuesday, April 30, 2013The Daybreak Youth Services “Jazzin’It Up” dinner, auction, and fundraiser will be held this Saturday, May 4, at the Heathman Lodge, 7801 NE Greenwood Lodge, Vancouver. Tickets cost $75, and all proceeds will support Daybreak’s Vancouver drug and alcohol treatment program for teens
The evening features silent and live auctions, dinner, and a performance by the award winning bassist and blues singer, Lisa Mann and Her Really Good Band. Attendees will have a chance to win a vacation in Arizona. To listen to some of Mann’s work click here.
Daybreak Youth Services has been successfully treating teens for drug and alcohol abuse for twenty years. They operate inpatient and outpatient treatment programs throughout Washington State and serve nearly 1000 teens annually. This year, Daybreak hopes to raise the $131,000 raised at last years event.
