Vancouver Police awarded grant to enhance sexual assault services

On Oct. 25, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) received notification from the Washington State Office of Crime Victims Advocacy (OCVA) that the department has been selected for a new grant program to enhance sexual assault services. The grant award totaling $74,389 will allow the VPD to begin a pilot program in 2018 to enhance police response to victims of sexual assault. Vancouver is one of just 10 agencies statewide to receive this grant, and the only police department funded. This is the first year this new competitive grant program has been made available. The department is currently working with local partners and OCVA to establish collaborative expectations, roles and responsibilities.
