Vancouver Fire Department receives $80,000 FEMA grantPosted July 30, 2012
The Vancouver Fire Department (VFD) was awarded an $80,000 FEMA Fire Prevention Grant. ”The grant will fund a special fire and life safety mobile trailer used to educate citizens on preventing fires in home [and will] feature interactive kitchen and bedroom emergency scenarios,” says Vancouver Fire Marshall, Heidi Scarpelli. The VFD will identify and prioritize risks and then work with community partners to prevent or reduce the effects of the risk. This approach is called Residential Risk Reduction. Because local data illustrates the majority of fire and injury loss is within residential rather commercial properties, the VDF will focus efforts to better educate and change behaviors within the home setting.
