Sturgeon Festival Sept. 16

Spectacular sturgeon, breathtaking birds and remarkable reptiles will be showcased at the 21st annual Sturgeon Festival this Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 SE Columbia Way. This free family event attracts hundreds to celebrate and learn about sturgeon, a family of fish that has been in existence more than 100 million years.

Highlights include a close-up view during a fish dissection at 10:30 a.m., a live bird presentation by the Audubon Society of Portland at noon, and a captivating live reptile show presented by Steve’s Creature Feature at 1:30 p.m. Families can also enjoy kids face painting, crafts and hands-on science activities, and an interactive macroinvertebrate investigation station.

Guests are invited to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the Water Center’s outdoor lawn and picnic area during the festival. The City of Vancouver’s Water Wagon will be on site to keep everyone hydrated throughout the event. In an effort to keep waste to a minimum, guests are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles and pack lunches in reusable containers.
