Paddle, Pick Up, and Picnic at Vancouver Lake Sept. 23

The Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership (Estuary Partnership) invites community members of all ages to an end-of-summer celebration at Vancouver Lake on Saturday, Sept. 23. The event features canoe paddles on the lake, litter pick-up on the beach, nature activities for kids, and a free lunch for volunteers and paddlers.

Volunteers can sign up to pick up litter; each litter pick-up event lasts a hour. Volunteers should bring sturdy shoes, water, and sunscreen. Gloves, trash bags, and garbage pickers are provided. Kids nature activities will be available all day. Participants can also enjoy a free family picnic lunch in the park, donated by Sunrise Bagels and New Seasons Market.

Participants can also sign up to paddle one of the Estuary Partnership’s two stable 29-foot canoes, each seating up to 14 people. Paddles are led by Estuary Partnership outdoor educators, who also provide interpretation. No paddling experience is necessary. Volunteers and paddlers should pre-register at
