It’s Open Cockpit Day next Saturday, May 30. Visitors to Pearson Field Education Center will have the opportunity to climb into the cockpits of selected vintage aircraft and experience the planes from a pilot’s perspective. Weather permitting, the pilots of EAA Chapter 105 from Hillsboro and EAA Chapter 782 from Grove Field will give free airplane rides to children ages eight to 17 on a first-come, first-served basis.

A parent or legal guardian must be present to give written permission. Families should arrive early to register children for the free plane rides as slots fill up quickly. The museum’s flight simulator lab will be open for visitors and will be staffed by pilot volunteers.

Visitors can also enjoy the Pearson Field Advocates for General Aviation’s (PAGA) annual Spring Roll Out. Modern and vintage planes will be on display courtesy of the pilots at Pearson Field. Nuffield Imports will have vintage British vehicles on display. Pearson Field Education Center is located at 201A East Reserve St. inside the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.
