Officers work to make the Uptown Village area safer for pedestrians

On Thursday, Jan. 11, the Target Zero Traffic Safety Task Force (funded by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission) sent extra patrols to the Uptown Village area of Main Street in Vancouver with the purpose of enforcing pedestrian safety laws. The goals were to heighten the public’s awareness of pedestrian safety, distracted driving/walking, and speeding. In approximately 30 hours, officers looked for violators as well as opportunities to educate those on foot. They accomplished 172 contacts, 22 citations, 117 warnings, and two arrests.
