Hot weather for the weekendPosted August 3rd, 2012
After a fairly mild summer, the hottest weather so far this year is expected this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for Saturday afternoon and evening for the entire region, including all of Clark County. Temperatures will range from the mid-90s to close to 100 degrees at lower elevations, with lower to mid-90s in the coastal range, the Cascade Foothills, the Western Columbia Gorge, and the Upper Hood River Valley. If you must be outside, remember to drink more fluids, regardless of your activity level. Limit alcohol and soda intake, as these are dehydrating. Limit outdoor activity to morning and evening hours. If you must exercise, drink two to four glasses of cool, nonalcoholic fluids each hour. A sports beverage can replace the salt and minerals you lose in sweat. Rest often in shady areas. Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, and by putting on sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher.
