Clark College’s theatre department celebrates Neil LaBute‘s reasons to be pretty by bringing this Tony-nominated play to the Decker Theatre stage starting Friday, May 3. LaBute’s play, his first to be staged on Broadway, is the final installment of a trilogy that focuses on the modern-day obsession with physical appearance.

The show starts off with some ear-searing verbal fireworks when an off-handed remark that Greg makes to his friend and co-worker Kent about his own girlfriend Steph’s appearance is overheard by Kent’s wife, Carly. The action spins forward in a smartly delivered performance where the cast of characters fight, play and cry their way to a better understanding of life and love.

The production runs Fridays and Saturdays, May 3 through 18, at 7:30 p.m., and  a matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Tickets may be purchased through the Clark College Bookstore by mail, by telephone, in person, or at the door if tickets are still available. General admission tickets are $12 each; $20 for seniors; $8 for students/alumni. This play contains adult language and mature themes. To reach the bookstore, call 360-992-2815.
