Citizen Noise Advisory Committee meets May 10Posted May 3rd, 2012
The Portland International Airport Citizen Noise Advisory Committee (CNAC) will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Port of Portland Headquarters in the first floor Anchor Room on Thursday, May 10. CNAC meetings are open to the public and include time for public comment. Interested residents are encouraged to attend. For more information or directions to the meeting, contact the Port noise management hotline at 800-938-6647.
The agenda includes an overview of the Federal Aviation Administration‘s (FAA) emerging Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) and its expected PDX benefits in aircraft noise abatement and emissions reductions. When implemented this fall at PDX, NextGen will allow arriving aircraft to use new satellite-based navigation to align more closely with PDX noise abatement flight paths, and descend more continuously, quietly and efficiently. PDX is one of the first airports to adopt this new technology.
CNAC is the Port’s official forum for working with the community on issues related to aircraft noise. Committee representatives are from northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. Eleven members are appointed by various city and county jurisdictions, and four representatives are appointed by the Port in an effort to maintain geographic diversity on the committee. Technical assistance is provided by the FAA and the Oregon Air National Guard.
