First Friday Art Walk in downtown Vancouver Dec. 1

First Friday Art Walk in Vancouver returns this Friday, Dec. 1. Galleries, restaurants and merchants throughout downtown welcome guests to stroll, enjoy, and celebrate the season. Featured highlights for December include:

  • Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St: Fourth annual Art4Art Fundraiser. Over 200 art panels donated by local artists will sell for $30 each until gone.
  • Erik Runyan Jewelers, 501 Main St: Watercolors from award winning artist, Tom Gail. Wine and appetizers provided.
  • Gallery 360 at the Slocum House, 605 Esther St: New exhibit, “Deck the Halls” is the gallery’s final show at the historic Slocum House.
  • Luepke Flowers and Finds, 1300 Washington St: Art by Raymond Klein, photography on canvas. Pacific Northwest scenes and stills.

First Friday Artwalks are presented by Vancouver’s Downtown Association. Participating businesses often have samples, sales, live music, and more. For a complete list of events for December,  find the Hotsheet here.

RTC meeting Dec. 5

The next Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council (RTC) Board of Directors meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the Sixth Floor Training Room of the Clark County Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St. Copies of the agenda are available here. Diking and drainage district candidate filing period Dec. 11 – 14

The Clark County Elections Department will accept candidate filings for the positions of commissioner for Drainage District No. 2, Drainage Improvement District No. 5 and Diking Improvement District No. 14 from 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11 to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14. The official date of the election for these commissioner positions will be Tuesday, Feb. 6. If only one candidate files for any of these three positions, that candidate will be deemed elected and no election for that office will be held. Filings will be taken at the Clark County Elections Department, 1408 Franklin St., Vancouver. For questions, contact Cathie Garber of the Elections Department at 360-397-2345.

Christmas Stories Dec. 9 and 10

Christmas Stories is a unique and entertaining theatrical dance performance featuring several different Christmas stories, and an amalgam of dance styles, alongside live acting and singing. Two performances are slated for Saturday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 10, at 2 and 6 p.m., at the Ridgefield Performing Arts Center, 2630 S Hillhurst St.

Highlights include tap dancing reindeer running amok in the colorful Nightmare on Christmas Eve, a fun-filled retelling of Scrooge with Ebenezer, a salute to armed forced with USO-NO!, and a celebration of the unity of man in the poignant The Music Box.

Presented by Dance Fusion NW, Christmas Stories is the perfect family event to celebrate the magic, joy and hope of the season.
