36th annual Halloween Fun Fest in Battle Ground Oct. 31

The City of Battle Ground and the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce invite area families to enjoy a safe Halloween with a myriad of events within city limits. Festivities kick off with the Spirit Award & Best Scarecrow Contest judged by Mallard Landing residents, the annual Coloring Contest for children ages two through 12, and the “Trunk-or-Treat” event in the Community Center parking lot.

The “Trick or Treat Street” event runs from 4 to 6 p.m. on Main Street on Halloween. All businesses that display an orange jack-o-lantern sign in their window invite trick or treaters in for a special treat. The Battle Ground Junior Air Force ROTC and Battle Ground Kiwanis Club will provide crosswalk safety.

At the east end of town, the Battle Ground Community Center will host “Fright Night,” a free event with lots of games, prizes, treasures, tricks, and treats, from 4 to 6 p.m. Battle Ground Albertson’s will again be providing cakes and cookies for the Cake Walk. Vancouver Chamber hires Montague and Tanska

The Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce (GVCC) has hired two former Chamber Executive Directors to join their team. Paul Montague will become the GVCC’s Business Solutions Counselor. Amy Tanska will be the GVCC’s Membership Recruitment Director and strive to grow the chamber’s membership base with a diverse set of businesses in Clark County.

Montague will work to connect local businesses with services provided by all these partners in the areas of: talent recruitment, On-the-Job Training, hiring events, pre-employment assessment testing and facilitation, labor market information, access to tax credits and downsizing services.

Tanska’s background, education, and community connectivity will set her apart as the Chamber’s new Membership Recruitment Director. She’s a Washington State University graduate with a Bachelors in Political Science, 2016 graduate of Leadership Clark County, and a former employee of the SW Washington Humane Society, the Mount. St Helen’s Institute, and former executive director of the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce.

Dutch Bros annual Buck for Kids event raises $414,233

On Sept. 29, Dutch Bros celebrated its annual Buck For Kids day and raised $414,233. All 292 stands donated $1 from each drink sold to the local children’s organization of their choice in honor of National Coffee Day. Through Buck for Kids, Dutch Bros locations in Vancouver and Battle Ground raised $3,000 for the Children’s Center, $3,264 for the Flash Love Organization, $3,264 for Coats For Kids, and $2,500 for Grace Therapeutic Horse ProgramTo date, Dutch Bros’ Buck for Kids has raised more than $1.75 million for local youth organizations.

142nd Fighter Wing to host, conduct dissimilar air combat training now through Oct. 26

The Oregon Air National Guard’s 142nd Fighter Wing will host F-16’s from the 21st Fighter Squadron out of Luke Air Force Base, AZ, today, Thursday, Oct. 12 through 26, to conduct dissimilar air combat training (DACT).  DACT provides realistic combat scenarios for pilots to hone advanced aerial tactics that may be used against potential adversaries. The training is an essential and required component to ensure military readiness in support of the base’s national and state missions. Flights will depart from and land at the Portland International Airport. In an effort to foster coordination with the community and the Port of Portland, flights will launch daily after 8 a.m. and will conclude before 4 p.m.
