Evergreen Public Schools hosts tour Oct. 12

Evergreen Public Schools will host a community tour of the Henrietta Lacks Health and Bioscience High School on Thursday, Oct. 12. The school opened in the fall of 2013 and currently serves approximately 500 students in grades nine through 12. Guests will meet at Cascadia Technical Academy, 12200 NE 28th St. at 8 a.m., will be bused to HeLa High for a tour of the school, and then return to Cascadia for a brief tour of the facility followed by lunch. Transportation and lunch are free of charge. For more information and to reserve a spot, contact the Evergreen Community Relations Department at 360-604-4088 or community.relations@evergreenps.org.

Port of Woodland commissioners hold regular meeting Nov. 14

The Port of Woodland is giving notice that the scheduled public meeting for Thursday, Nov. 16, has been changed to Tuesday, Nov. 14. The meeting will be at the regular scheduled time of 5 p.m., and will be located at the regular meeting location, the Port of Woodland office, 115 Davidson, Woodland.

SW Washington Wind Symphony presents “Legends of American Band” Oct. 22

The Southwest Washington Wind Symphony opens its 13th season with the “Legends of American Band” concert which showcases American master composers of concert band music. The performance will be at the Union High School Performing Arts Center on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 3 p.m.

The program includes Requiem by David Maslanka and guest-conducted by Gregg Hanson, Emeritus Director of Bands at the University of Arizona. Other selections include The Hounds of Spring by Alfred Reed and the official march of the United States, The Stars and Stripes Forever, by John Philip Sousa.

The SW Washington Wind Symphony is a 55-musician, professional quality concert band. All concerts are free and open to the public. The Union High School Performing Arts Center is located at 6201 NW Friberg-Strunk St. in Camas. For more information, visit www.swwindsymphony.org

Rep. Vicki Kraft hosts Capital Budget Grant Workshop Oct. 17

On Tuesday, Oct. 17, Rep. Vicki Kraft, R-Vancouver will host an informational “Capital Budget Grant Workshop” to help local and non-profit organizations identify and apply for grants funded through the state’s capital budget.

This workshop is designed to connect community and non-profit organizations in Southwest Washington to potential grant resources. Community organizations will be given information on what types of grants are available and get answers on how to apply.

Grant managers and key staff members from the Washington State Department of Commerce and Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office will be on hand to provide details on available grants, as well as guidance on the application process. 

The workshop is from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at WSU Vancouver, 14204 NE Salmon Creek Ave. RSVPs are requested here.
