BGPS partners with Clark College to provide English classes for adults

Battle Ground Public Schools is again partnering with Clark College to provide instructional English classes for adults who speak English as a second language. Classes will be held in Battle Ground and coursework emphasizes conversational English.

Registration will take place on Tues., Sept. 26, at the Lewisville Campus at 406 NW 5th Ave., in Battle Ground. Spanish and Russian interpreters will be available to assist at registration.

Each class meets six hours per week over 10 weeks at the Lewisville Campus. Classes are held each Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 8:50 p.m. in fall, winter and spring. Space is limited, and registration is on a first come, first served basis.

Students will be charged $25 tuition per quarter. For financial help or registration questions, contact the Clark College Basic Skills Office at 360-992-2741. Battle Ground Public Schools will provide free tutoring/daycare for children ages four and up while parents are attending English classes.

Friends of the Carpenter Tool & Product Sale today and Saturday

Friends of the Carpenter will host a Tool & Product Sale on Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Friendship Center, 1600 W 20th St. These sales give the community an opportunity to see the nonprofit’s fully-appointed shop, to view and purchase wood products, and peruse the Friendship Center’s shop offerings. Products for sale include ornament crosses, wall plaques, holiday ornaments, pens, planter boxes, bird/critter feeders and more. Tools include band saws, table saws, scroll saws, various tools and miscellaneous shop equipment.

Ghost Town Poetry Open Mic features Coleman Stevenson Sept. 14

Ghost Town Poetry Open Mic features Coleman Stevenson at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, at Angst Gallery. Stevenson is the author of two collections of poems, Breakfast and The Accidental Rarefication of Pattern. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in a variety of publications such as The Portable Boog Reader, Gramma, Paper Darts, Seattle Review, and more. She has been a guest curator for various gallery spaces in the Portland area, and has also taught poetry, design theory, and cultural studies. She created and has taught the Image+Text track in the Certificate Program at the Independent Publishing Resource Center. Open Mic is hosted by Christopher Luna and Toni Partington of Printed Matter Vancouver.
