President signs Jaime Herrera Beutler’s West Coast Crab Management Bill into law

Wednesday, August 23, 2017

President Trump has signed Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler‘s bill Friday to permanently extend a decades-old fishery management agreement that has been vital to Washington state’s Dungeness crab fishery. The bipartisan bill now becomes law. Earlier this month, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) partnered with Herrera Beutler to get the bill passed in the U.S. Senate. The states of Washington, Oregon, and California cooperatively manage the West Coast crab fishery in federal waters under a tri-state agreement that Congress first authorized in 1998. The bill makes that existing authority permanent. The agreement expired without a replacement in 2016.

Using Hop Fastpass on C-TRAN is now as easy as tapping your phone

Wednesday, August 23, 2017

Using transit in the Vancouver-Portland metro area just keeps getting easier with the Hop Fastpass electronic fare payment system. In addition to paying fare with the tap of a Hop card, riders can now just tap their phone to pay. It’s the newest feature of Hop. All that is needed is a smartphone, a mobile wallet app and a credit or debit card.

A mobile wallet service like Android Pay, Apple Pay or Samsung Pay that is linked to a valid bankcard. Check out these websites to learn more:
* Android users – https://www.android.com/pay/
* Apple users – https://www.apple.com/apple-pay/
* Samsung users – http://www.samsung.com/us/samsung-pay/

Paying by phone can save money, too. Once a phone is tapped for two distinct trips (more than 2 1/2 hours apart) within the service day, the rider earns a day pass, and the rest of the day’s rides are free.
