Vancouver Parks and Recreation seeks community input on North Image Park development

Tuesday, August 22, 2017

Vancouver Parks and Recreation is seeking ideas for a neighborhood park plan for North Image. The city has hired a design consultant team, Harper Houf Peterson Righellis Inc., to develop a plan for the park that incorporates community input.

North Image is an undeveloped park located at the northwest corner of NE 137th Ave. and NE 49th St. The site is 5.57 acres and is generally flat with some mature evergreens on the southwest end of the property. A master plan with community input will begin Summer 2017 with completion anticipated in Fall 2017.

Residents can give feedback on the plan and make suggestions by responding to Vancouver Parks and Recreation’s survey. The results will help the design team prepare two draft concepts to be presented at a public meeting later this fall. Find out more about Vancouver Parks and Recreation projects and events at their website.

Repair Cafe Aug. 24

Tuesday, August 22, 2017

Repair Cafe Clark County is holding a free repair cafe Thursday, Aug. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Filbin’s Ace Hardware, at 809 NE Minnehaha St. Repair Cafes are free community events where skilled fixers volunteer to lend their skills to residents who bring in their broken items for repair.

Individuals must be present during the repair. There are no guarantees an item can be fixed, or that attempting to fix it won’t break it even more. Only bring an item that’s small enough to be easily carried in by one person. Limit one item per person. Do not bring any items that are leaking, dangerous, contain gasoline, or have a strong odor.

Repairable items include small appliances, lamps or fans, jewelry, bicycles, yard and garden tools that need sharpening, and clean clothing or textiles that need mending. A full list can be found here. Keep up with Repair Cafe Clark County on their Facebook page.

Evergreen Habitat for Humanity dedicates Beltran family home Aug. 27

Tuesday, August 22, 2017

Join Evergreen Habitat for Humanity on Sunday, August 27 at 2 p.m. for the dedication ceremony of the Beltran family home. The Beltran family consists of Tino Beltran and Soreya Beltran and their five children ages five months to nine years. When their son Mario Beltran was born, the family learned that he was missing a crucial part of one of his chromosomes, causing him to be mentally and physically handicapped. Because of this, his functioning is limited, and he is in need of constant care.

The family of seven currently live in a two-bedroom townhome. Together, the Beltrans have worked over 500 hours building homes for other Habitat families and building their own home. Volunteers from sponsors Providence Health & Services and PeaceHealth Southwest served over 700 hours on the construction site.

The dedication ceremony will take place at 1110 SE 77th Ct. at Evergreen Habitat for Humanity’s McKibbin Commons subdivision. Learn more about Evergreen Habitat for Humanity and their other projects here.
