Boomerang announces Call to Artists for September exhibit

Boomerang has announced a Call for Art Submissions for its upcoming exhibit, “Realism vs Impressionism.” The show is open to all northwest artists, amateur or professional. The exhibition hopes to reach out to and include Northwest realist and impressionist painters, and the call goes out north to Bellingham, as far east as Spokane, and Boise, and south to Medford. Boomerang hopes for diverse artwork within the constraints of realist and impressionist style. The deadline to submit is midnight Friday, Aug. 18. To learn more, click here.

Battle Ground Chamber’s annual golf tournament Sept. 7

The Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce will host its 2017 golf tournament on Sept. 7, at The Cedars on Salmon Creek. The Hawaiian-themed event will feature several fun games at tees, holes, and in-between. ​During this 4-person scramble, participants will be “Driving Away Hunger” as a portion of proceeds will benefit the North County Community Food Bank and the Battle Ground Chamber. Golfers registered for this tournament on or before Friday, Aug. 18, will be entered into a drawing for a weekend stay at a beach house in Long Beach. The two-story house features three bedrooms with queen beds and a loft with an additional two beds. It sleeps eight people, is non-smoking and pets are welcome.

Stewardship Saturday at Columbia Springs Aug. 19

Visitors to Columbia Springs this Saturday, Aug. 19, will have the opportunity to work on several projects around the site, and enjoy a family friendly activity. Projects may include gardening, painting, trail maintenance, and more. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome. Children under 14 must have parent or guardian supervision, and teens under 16 need parent or guardian permission. Snacks and tools will be provided. Sturdy shoes, appropriate outdoor work clothing, a water bottle, and enthusiasm are recommended. Columbia Springs is located at 12208 SE Evergreen Hwy. Fundraiser for Fort Vancouver Trappers Aug. 26

The community is invited to support the Fort Vancouver Football Program by attending a Kickoff Alumni/Community Fun Day Fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants will meet at Fort football fields to welcome the new Head Football Coach, former Seattle Seahawk, nine-year NFL Player Steve “Bruiser” Broussard. Event highlights include a 5k followed by a BBQ lunch. Coach Broussard will share his vision for the future of the Fort Football Program.
