New trustee and officers named to Salmon Creek Hospital Foundation Board

Dennis Malin

Salmon Creek Hospital Foundation announced the election of Dennis R. Malin to its board of trustees. Malin is the owner and managing partner for Empire Hospitality, a national company based in Vancouver that sources and manages government lodging contracts. Malin was recognized as one of the Vancouver Business Journal’s “Accomplished and Under 40” in 2016. He is an active volunteer at the VA Portland Fisher House on the Vancouver Veterans Administration campus, and mentors veterans through an advisor program.

The foundation also elected the following officers to its board of trustees during its annual meeting on June 14:

  • Marta S. Halverson, chair
  • Kristy K. Weaver, vice chair
  • J. Michael Schultz, executive director (ex officio)
  • Bradley J. Carlson, treasurer
  • Erin C. Lambley, secretary

Boomerang honors “Cruisin’ the Gut” with new exhibit, First Friday reception July 5

Barbara Van Nostren’s “Birds Flying Through It”

“Cars Cars Cars” opens Friday, July 7, at Boomerang Fine Arts. The art exhibition was meant to be in honor of Vancouver’s annual “Cruisin’ the Gut.” Although the classic car show may not happen this year, Boomerang has chosen to proceed with the exhibition.

Beginning First Friday, July 7, the gallery will display works from local artists who focus on vehicles as their subject-matter. The artists use various drawing and painting media. Featured works of local artists Barbara Van Nostren and Russell Cupp will be on display, among others.

Join the team at Boomerang, First Friday, from 5 to 9 p.m., for a reception with live music and light refreshments. Then, return for a “Cruisin’ the Gut” recognition event on Saturday, July 15, for “Cars, Cars, Cars,” iced coffee drinks, and fun. The exhibit continues through Friday, July 28.

Fireworks sale and discharge in Battle Ground opens today

The sale and discharge of fireworks in Battle Ground is regulated by city code and state statute. Wednesday, June 28, marks the legal opening of fireworks sales and discharge within Battle Ground city limits. In the city of Battle Ground, legal fireworks may be discharged: June 28, from noon to 11 p.m.; June 29 through July 3, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; July 4, from 9 a.m. to midnight; and July 5, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Safety tips and helpful links, including information on how to identify illegal fireworks, is available at www.cityofbg.org/fireworks.

Art in the Heart July 7

Art on the Boulevard’s annual Art in the Heart outdoor show and sale will take place in conjunction with downtown Vancouver’s First Friday, July 7, from 4 to 9 p.m. (not on its usually date in August). This year, art from over a dozen artists will be set up along the sidewalk selling art at special one-day-only pricing.

Artists scheduled to be at the event are: Oleg Ulitskiy, Denise McFadden, Michael Lindstrom, Fay Kahn, Mike Rangner, Emily Schultz, Harry Wheeler, Cirith Sebree-Anderson, Ruth Mabrey, Erskine Wood, Cari & Peter Corbet-Owen, Juliet Moran and Leland John.

Oil, watercolor, gouache, batik and mixed media paintings, jewelry, photography and pottery will all be on display.
