New John S. McKibbin Leadership Legacy Award brings total to six awards offered by GVCC

The Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce (GVCC) has released its 2017 Business and Leadership Award forms online here. The addition of the new John S. McKibbin Leadership Legacy Award brings the total to six Business & Leadership Awards offered to the business community of Southwest Washington this summer.

Nominators, or business owners and individuals seeking the awards, have until Friday, Aug. 11, at 5 p.m., to submit. The chamber will honor the 2017 “Business of the Year,” in a small business and large business category, and designate a Southwest Washington “Start-up to Watch.”

Individuals can apply, or be nominated for either the Community Champion Award or the John S. McKibbin Leadership Legacy Award to recognize personal achievements that impact the business community. Finally, elected officials that have demonstrated support for the business community can apply for the 2017 Community Statesman Award.

Award recipients will be invited to the GVCC’s annual Officer Installation and Business & Leadership Awards event in September at the Hilton. Tickets can be purchased at www.vancouverusa.com.

Friends of the Carpenter receives $2,000 grant for CARE Committee

Friends of the Carpenter has been awarded a $2,000 grant from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, run locally by the Missions Office of the Archdiocese of Seattle; the grant will support program activities of the Community Awareness Reaching Empowerment (CARE) Committee. The CARE Committee organizes field trips and events for participants and provides Friends of the Carpenter staff and Board with feedback on the effectiveness of programs. Some of those trips and events include Bonneville Dam, the Oregon Zoo, The Grotto, and a trip to the beach at Seaside, OR, for the annual kite festival.

BPA launches new education campaign

The Bonneville Power Administration and regional partners are celebrating the benefits that hydropower has brought to the Pacific Northwest by launching a new education campaign. The rivers of the Northwest are not only icons of the region’s natural beauty, but also provide a constant supply of energy. Hydroelectric dams in the Northwest produce more electricity than any other North American river system. Hydropower accounts for almost 90 percent of renewable energy in the Pacific Northwest. Strategies 360 opens office in Vancouver

Last week, Strategies 360 (S360), the leading public affairs, communications and research firm in the West, official opened the firm’s newest office in Vancouver. The launch was celebrated by several Vancouver and Clark County officials and community leaders at a kick-off party at the Red Cross building at Fort Vancouver.
