City seeks applicants for vacancy on Portland airport noise advisory committee

imgres-2The City of Vancouver is seeking applicants to fill one mid-term vacancy on the Portland International Airport (PDX) Citizen Noise Advisory Committee. Applications must be received by 5 p.m., Friday, May 12. Applicants must live inside the Vancouver city limits. The mid-term appointment will begin immediately and end in November 2018. The committee is the official forum to address the community’s aircraft noise concerns. Local jurisdictions and the Port of Portland appoint members of the committee to represent residential and business concerns. Woodland School District employee is ESD 112 region Classified School Employee of the Year

Mary-Ann-Sturdivan_and_Principal_John_Shoup A Woodland School District employee has been named 2017 Classified School Employee of the Year for the ESD 112 region. The award is given by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and recognizes an outstanding classified school employee in each ESD region of the state. Mary Ann Sturdivan is a Career Counselor at Woodland High School. Sturdivan was instrumental in developing the community job fair, and started a school pantry which provides food, clothing, hygiene items and school supplies. She has also partnered with community organizations to collect formal dresses and suits so that students can have access to formal attire for school dances. Sturdivan will be recognized along with honorees from other regions of the state by Superintendent Chris Reykdal later this spring. Her application will be forwarded to the state level for consideration for the Washington State Classified Employee of the Year award.

Call For Artists: Fifth annual Clark County Open Studios Tour

imgresClark County Open Studios has announced a call to artists for its fifth annual Open Studios Tour slated for November. Visual artists and artisans living in Clark County, working in all media are welcome. The juried art event offers artists a unique opportunity to gain further recognition, to open studio doors to the public, and to show and sell work. For the community, Open Studios is a free self-guided tour that will enhance awareness of talented local artists while enriching the cultural life of Clark County neighborhoods. The preview exhibit and artists reception is on First Friday November 4, from 5 to 9 p.m., and the tour is Saturday and Sunday, Novemeber 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The deadline to apply is May 31. 2017 Clark County Fair announces its Summer Concert Series line up

images-1The Clark County Fair has announced four concerts planned during the run of the fair Friday, Aug. 4 through Sunday, Aug. 13. Every year, the Clark County Fair seeks the top artists and award-winning bands to thrill the crowds. The series features:

  • August 4: Old Dominion
  • August 5: The Marshall Tucker Band
  • August 6: The B-52s
  • August 7: M.E. Live – Melissa Etheridge
