First Friday Art Walk in downtown Vancouver Mar. 4
Monday, February 29, 2016Its First Friday Art Walk in Vancouver is this Friday, Mar. 4. Many of downtown’s art galleries, shops, restaurants, coffee shops, wine bars and boutiques will be open from 5 to 9 p.m., many offering new merchandise, discount and sales, samples, appetizers, live music, and more. The Vancouver’s Downtown Association prepares a monthly Hotsheet with a walking map and a list of participating galleries, restaurants, and merchants. A few highlights for March include:
- Gallery 360, 605 Esther St.: Artwork by John Turley and live music by jazz pianist Peter Boesen
- Boomerang, 808 Main St.: Nine large format oil paintings by Portland artist Christopher B. Mooney
- Luepke Flowers and Finds, 1300 Washington St.: Appetizers and the works of local artist is Maureen Montague
- North Bank Artists Gallery, 1005 Main St.: New works by North Bank Artist members Chrissie Forbes and Reid Trevarthen.

Goddard School in Salmon Creek collects books for Share now through Mar. 4
Monday, February 29, 2016The Goddard School (Salmon Creek), a preschool focusing on learning through play for children from four weeks to six years old, will be collecting new and gently used books for children in need. Share will distribute the donated books in the weekly “backpacks.” There are over 31,700 children in the communities of Vancouver, Ridgefield, Battle Ground, Brush Prairie, Hockinson, Woodland, and throughout Clark County who receive free and reduced-meals at local schools during the week. Each week, Share fills 1,850 bags of food as part of its Backpack Program. The Goddard School is accepting donations at 13201 NE 178th St. now through Saturday, Mar. 4. Pancake breakfast to benefit Ridgefield’s library building fund this Saturday
Monday, February 29, 2016The Ridgefield Lions Club is hosting a pancake breakfast this Saturday, Mar. 5, to benefit the Ridgefield library building fund. Visitors can enjoy pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice and coffee from 8 to 10:30 a.m., at the Community Center. The breakfast costs $5 per person or $20 for a family up to six people. The Community Center is located at 210 N Main Ave. The Friends of the Ridgefield Community Library is an independent non-profit group dedicated to raising funds, awareness, and goodwill for the library. Donations can be made at any time. Make checks out to “Friends of the Ridgefield Library” and mail to PO Box 534, Ridgefield, WA 98642, or take it to the library. Contributions may be tax deductible.
