The Daily Insider celebrates the season with another short week

The year of 2015 was full of change and growth for Clark County, and we at the Insider are proud to have reported on it. To celebrate the new year, we will not publish Wednesday, Dec. 30 through Friday, Jan. 1. We will return Monday, Jan. 2, in 2016. Clark County Quilters host Bill Volckening Jan. 14
Tuesday, December 29, 2015Bill Volckening collected quilts to display on the walls of his home for more than 20 years. He periodically changed the quilts to match wall color, furniture, and his own preferences. During those years Volckening was pursuing a hobby, without knowing it would lead him to stardom in the quilt world, award-winning photography, award-winning quilt making, and global exhibition of his quilts and publications. The Volckening Collection now includes more than 300 quilts from the 18th century to the 21st century.

Tuesday, December 29, 2015County seeks leaders to “fast track” new toll-free bi-state bridges
Tuesday, December 29, 2015The Board of County Councilors is setting up two task forces to examine prospects for toll-free bridges across the Columbia River over the next six months. Each task force will include 10 community leaders from Washington and Oregon to “gather, study, and then provide a written recommendation for a community supported design that can be fast-tracked, funded and constructed in a timely manner,” says Board Chair David Madore.
A proposed East County bridge would be located between I-205 and Troudale. The mayors of Troutdale, Fairview and Wood Village have asked to join in that effort. A proposed West County bridge would be located west of Portland International Airport. More information can be found at:
