The year of 2015 was full of change and growth for Clark County, and we at the Insider are proud to have reported on it. Clark County Quilters host Bill Volckening Jan. 14

Bill Volckening collected quilts to display on the walls of his home for more than 20 years. He periodically changed the quilts to match wall color, furniture, and his own preferences. During those years Volckening was pursuing a hobby, without knowing it would lead him to stardom in the quilt world, award-winning photography, award-winning quilt making, and global exhibition of his quilts and publications. The Volckening Collection now includes more than 300 quilts from the 18th century to the 21st century.
Forest Home Road remains closed in Camas, repairs expected in summer 2016

The City of Camas has announced that Forest Home Road is expected to be closed for a number of months until repairs can be made in order for it to be safe for travel. During the early December heavy rain events, a significant slide occurred approximately 1,500 feet east of NW Astor Street. It is on the south side of Forest Home Road and is not visible when riding in a vehicle, so people going around the current barricades may not realize that it is unsafe. The slide has undercut the road in the eastbound (downhill) lane and the City will be installing permanent barricades to ensure the road is not used until it is repaired. Unfortunately, the repair is not an easy one and will take a major project in which the City will need to obtain funding, complete geotechnical investigations, complete full design and hire a contractor to complete the repair work. The earliest timeframe that construction might begin is summer 2016.County seeks leaders to “fast track” new toll-free bi-state bridges

The Board of County Councilors is setting up two task forces to examine prospects for toll-free bridges across the Columbia River over the next six months. Each task force will include 10 community leaders from Washington and Oregon to “gather, study, and then provide a written recommendation for a community supported design that can be fast-tracked, funded and constructed in a timely manner,” says Board Chair David Madore.
A proposed East County bridge would be located between I-205 and Troudale. The mayors of Troutdale, Fairview and Wood Village have asked to join in that effort. A proposed West County bridge would be located west of Portland International Airport. More information can be found at:
