This designation coincides with National Small Business Week on May 4 through 8. Both designations recognize the important contributions small business owners and entrepreneurs make to their community and economy. Small businesses are the backbone of our local and national economy. In Vancouver, 95 percent of businesses are small businesses, with 50 or fewer employees. From restaurants to retail to services, Vancouver’s 7,329 small businesses are spread throughout the city. Nationally, more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business. The City of Vancouver offers assistance to small businesses through programs in its Community and Economic Development Department.
