Seton Catholic breaks record at annual fundraiser

The seventh annual “Celebrate Seton” benefit dinner for Seton Catholic Prep was the most successful dinner in it’s history. The evening generated $316,735 in donations and concluded with a festive keynote address by editor of Portland the University of Portland magazine, Brian Doyle, with other performances by the award winning Seton Choir as well as Seton Drama. The presenting sponsor was PeaceHealth; Gold Sponsors: Clark County Title, Columbia Bank, Commercial Realty Advisors, LSW Architects, Riverview Community Bank, Providence Health and Services; Blue sponsors: Global Security, Grand Canyon University and The Heathman Lodge.

CCHM reveals the Secrets of Clark County’s past Nov. 6

Often thought of as an issue only in the southern United States, the Civil War’s legacy of racial discrimination and violence can be seen closer to home. On Nov. 6, at 7 p.m., join CCHM for the last “First Thursday” lecture of the year focusing on The KKK in Southwest Washington. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for children under 18 and free with membership. Doors will open at 5 p.m.

The speaker is Martin Middlewood, a museum research volunteer and professional freelance writer. He will explore the stories and secrets behind this controversial history of Clark County. The intention is to create an open and safe environment to discuss this delicate subject.

Middlewood is a freelancer of more than 20 years who writes about technology, energy, the environment, and healthcare for newspapers, trade and technology magazines. Kids Vote 2014 on now through Nov. 4 in Clark County

Students in grades kindergarten through 12 have begun voting in a mock election put together by Kids Vote 2014. The non-profit seeks to involve kids in the voting process from an early age. Its goal is to inspire future voters and get every student to join in the process.

Kids Vote 2014 electronic voting went live the day ballots were mailed and will end at 8 p.m. on election day Tuesday, Nov. 4. A link to the ballot is on the “Vote Here” page at www.KidsVote2014.com. Boundaries for Legislative Districts and School Districts do not match. Where necessary, students will vote for the Legislative District candidates that include the most school district’s area.

Among the elected officials that support the Kids Vote 2014 mock election are Governor Jay Inslee, Senator Maria Cantwell, Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt, Clark County commissioners, Freeholders, and others. Their letters to Clark County students discuss the importance of voting and responsible citizenship.

Community Home Health & Hospice named as a Top Agency of the 2014 HomeCare Elite

Community Home Health & Hospice has announced that it has been named a Top Agency of the 2014 HomeCare Elite, a recognition of the top-performing home health agencies in the United States. Now in its ninth year, the HomeCare Elite identifies the top 25 percent of Medicare-certified agencies and highlights the top 100 and top 500 agencies overall. Winners are ranked by an analysis of publicly available performance measures in quality outcomes, best practice (process measure) implementation, patient experience (Home Health CAHPS), quality improvement and consistency, and financial performance. In order to be considered, an agency must be Medicare-certified and have data for at least one outcome in Home Health Compare. Out of 9,994 agencies considered, 2,501 are elite.
