Mark Ross has been selected as new BGPS assistant superintendent

Ross_Mark1Battle Ground Public SchoolsInterim Superintendent Duane Rose, and incoming Superintendent Mark Hottowe, have recommended Mark Ross as the New Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. This is a top-level position in the district office and oversees the coordination of curriculum and staff development, as well as federal and state programs. Ross is currently serving as principal of Heritage High School in Evergreen School District. In addition, he has served as Executive Director for Secondary Learning at Evergreen School District and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning at Washougal School District. Upon board approval, Ross will transition to the new position July 1.

Port of Camas-Washougal commissioners hold regular meeting June 3

The Port of Camas-Washougal will hold its regular commissioners meeting Tuesday, June 3, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Port Meeting Room, 24 South A St. in Washougal. The Executive Session (Closed to public) begins at 4 p.m., and the open public meeting begins at 5 p.m.

CCHM’s Downtown Vancouver Walking Tour Season begins today

The Clark County Historical Museum kicks off its 2014 Vancouver Walking Tours today. The tours run Fridays at noon and Saturdays at 9 a.m. through August 30. Tomorrow morning, Saturday, May 31, participants will enjoy “Movers and Shakers,” a tour of Capitol Hill and the Lincoln neighborhood, starting at 33rd and Main. Interested parties should dress for the weather and are welcome to bring a camera. The walks are an hour long and are led by tour guides that will talk about the development and highlights of each area.

Individual tickets are $5 for members and $7 for non-members and are available at the museum up to an hour before each tour starts. A half pass, good for any six tours, is $27 for members and $40 for non-members. The full season pass, good for any 12 tours plus the bonus Labor Tour on August 29, is $53 for members and $80 for non-members. These are available anytime at the museum. Drop-ins for the tours are welcome, but reservations are recommended.

Camas Farmer’s Market opens June 4

The Camas Farmer’s Market kicks off its seventh season with fresh locally grown produce, delicious food, new offerings, and a Health Fair featuring Pure Wellness Chiropractic and other great health organizations on Wednesday, June 4. The market will be open every Wednesday through October 1 from 3 to 7 p.m. in front of the Camas Public Library.

Each Wednesday the market fills up with freshly harvested seasonal fruits and vegetables, flowers, pastured meat, eggs, and prepared foods. It features hot food vendors, live music, a Healthy Living booth and a Kids Connection booth that will have fun activities that teach nutrition, gardening and farming. The WSU Extension Service Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer gardening questions.
