Battle Ground police officer Armstrong promoted to Sergeant
Sgt. Kim Armstrong
Officer Kim Armstrong
of the Battle Ground Police Department has been promoted to
Sergeant and was recognized in a formal ceremony last week
at the Police Department. Sergeant Armstrong has received numerous awards and recognition for her service to the community; in 2009 she received the Unit Meritorious Service Medal for work on an attempted kidnapping case and a Commendation Medal for her service to the Detective Unit from 2006-2009. She was also recognized by the County Vulnerable Adults Task Force for service and dedication while serving as chairperson in 2009. "She is broadly recognized for her outstanding investigative skills, and I am confident she has both the ability and leadership characteristics needed to be a very effective sergeant," said Interim Chief of Police Bob Carden. As sergeant, Armstrong will provide management and leadership support while supervising a shift of three patrol officers; she will also provide assistance and guidance to officers in complex cases and investigations. For more information about the WASPC Accredited Battle Ground Police Department, please visit the City's website at www.cityofbg.org or call 360-342-5200.
The Forest Service recently announced that the Hemlock Picnic Area is now open with some restrictions. The removal of Hemlock Dam, draining of Hemlock Lake, and ensuing creek and floodplain restoration projects have led to some changes in the area. A Forest Service closure order for the area is in place to protect fragile plants and riparian habitat, but the picnic area and marked trails are open.
While the picnic area is now set back from the water;
amenities provide shaded tables, running water, accessible
bathrooms and flushing toilets only a couple hundred yards
from the now free-flowing Trout Creek. Want to know more?
