Historical museum showing free movie about modern-day Oregon Trail pioneers
What would it be like to go back
in time (with no cell phones, Twitter, Facebook, or running
water, for that matter) and travel across the country just
like the pioneers did? That’s what 24 kids from across the
U.S. did for their summer vacation.
The Clark County Historical Museum is offering a free screening of In Pursuit of a Dream, a film about their adventure, on Thursday, July 1, as part of its July First Thursday Museum After Hours series. Led by three amazing teachers, these modern “emigrants” trekked through Wyoming and north to Oregon on a once-in-a-lifetime journey that challenged even the toughest in the group. They traded their modern conveniences for long dresses and overalls, loaded their wagons and took off for adventure on the Oregon and California Trails. Along the way they met gold seekers, scoundrels and natives. The museum is at 1511 Main St., Vancouver. For details, call 360-993-5679. Vancouver elementary school leads state in green certification

Vancouver's Sacajawea Elementary is the first school in the state to achieve "Level 2" certification in the Washington Green Schools program, which recognizes schools for good environmental practices. Since 2009 the statewide Washington Green Schools program has been providing free web-based tools and resources to help schools reduce their environmental effects and utility costs. Under the direction of teacher Meredith Gannon, Sacajawea has achieved certification in the areas of "energy efficiency" and "recycling and waste reduction." New civil engineer joins MacKay & Sposito
