Helping Tammy is her son, at left, Matt Jones. On June 12, more than 1,500 children, parents and grandparents attended the fifth annual Healthy Kids Fair this month at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. Children’s services departments from throughout the hospital took part, along with 20 community partners. The Salmon Creek Lions Club painted 1,000 children’s faces; Salmon Creek Hospital Foundation handed out a free book to each child; the Children’s Center, which provides pediatric rehabilitation services, offered a children’s obstacle course focused on movement and balance; Fire District 6 offered fire safety tips. "It was a busy day, with a steady stream of visitors, and we saw a lot of smiles all day long, from children and adults alike," said Brian Willoughby, community relations specialist for Legacy Salmon Creek. The fair also offered low-cost bicycle helmets, with fittings to make sure helmets are the right size and are worn correctly. More than 500 helmets were sold at the fair. In addition, more than 80 child safety seats that were damaged or had expired were brought in to be recycled, and more than 30 child-safety seats were checked to make sure they were being used properly.
Auditions to sing the national anthem before one of the grandstand shows at the Clark County Fair are tonight at 6 p.m. at the Clark County Event Center adjacent to the fairgrounds, 17402 NE Delfel Road in Ridgefield.
