CEOs lift shovels for Habitat for Humanity

First Independent Bank CEO and Chairman Bill Firstenburg hosted Evergreen Habitat for Humanity’s first annual CEO Build.  Joining him were 18 friends and fellow CEOs Bryan Ableidinger, Ron Bertolucci, Bill Bryant, Pete DuBois, Jeff Firstenburg, Scott Firstenburg, Kelly Helmes, Brian Hopper, Elie Kassab, Greg Kimsey, Julian Levi, Roch Manley, Bill Morrison, Jerry Nutter, Matt Olson, Ralph Parker, Dennis Smith and John Weigel all volunteered their time and construction skills on Thursday, June 10, 2010.

The CEOs and business leaders represented many local companies and organizations including First Independent Bank, Bryant & Associates, Clark County, Evergreen Truss, HDJ Design, Manley Architects, New Tradition Homes, Nutter Corporation, Parkrose Hardware, Regal Greetings, Robertson & Olson, St. Andrew Church and Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.

The CEOs divided into two work crews to complete the perimeter water migration systems for houses four and five at the Patten Park subdivision, which by 2011 will include seven Habitat homes.

Established in 1991, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity develops communities by building safe, affordable housing.

Brian Martin

Martin is a landscape architect with more than 3 years of landscape architecture experience in site design, design development and construction document packages which includes planting, irrigation and construction plans in addition to project construction details.  He has a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Idaho.

Tony Golik: A fundraiser for Tony Golik’s campaign for Clark County prosecutor is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, at Dolce Gelato, 535 West 8th St. in downtown Vancouver.

Leadership Clark County will host a candidate forum at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, at Clark College's Gaiser Hall, featuring candidates running for the open seat in the U.S. 3rd Congressional District. The event is free and open to the public.

  • Nolan Fundraiser: A fundraiser for Clark County Sheriff’s Commander Mike Nolan is planned from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, June 15, at the Sleep Country Amphitheater VIP tent, 17200 N.E. Delfel Rd. in Ridgefield. Nolan has a fast-growing form of brain cancer. Money collected will be used to pay for his care and support his family. Food and beverages will be served.   • Volunteers needed: With less than one month before Independence Day at Fort Vancouver, the nonprofit organization which produces the event, the Fort Vancouver National Trust, is looking for volunteers to fill a number of roles, from ticket collectors, information booth and parking lot attendants, servers for the adult beverage area and more.   • CRESA Book Club: The Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency (CRESA) will be hosting a lunchtime book club to discuss the Amanda Ripley book The Unthinkable beginning on Monday, July 12. The book provides examples of how people have responded to disasters. The club will be facilitated by Cheryl Bledsoe and Beth Vaughn, who are both emergency managers for CRESA and Clark County. The club will run for eight Mondays over the lunch hour from noon to 1 p.m. from July 12 through Aug. 30.  It will be held on the sixth floor of the Public Services Center, 1300 Franklin Street, Vancouver, Wash. Participants will be expected to bring their own copy of the book.   • June 14: The co-chairs of the Columbia River Crossing Project Sponsors Council invite public testimony on Hayden Island access options at a meeting tonight from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Jantzen Beach SuperCenter, Community Room (across from the food court), 1405 Jantzen Beach Center, Portland. CRC is a long-term, comprehensive project to replace the Interstate 5 Bridge, extend light rail to Vancouver, improve closely-spaced interchanges, and enhance the pedestrian and bicycle path between the two cities.

  • June 14: The Fort Vancouver Library District board of trustees will meet beginning at 4 p.m. today at the Goldendale Community Library, 131 West Burgen, Goldendale. The board will hold an executive session at 4 p.m. and then have a regular meeting at 6 p.m.
