Senator Murray meets with Vancouver Astronaut
Senator Murray meets with Vancouver Astronaut Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger. On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.) met with Mission Specialist Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger of Space Shuttle Crew Mission STS-131 Discovery. Metcalf-Lindenburger is from Vancouver. Metcalf-Lindenburger is a former earth science and astronomy teacher at Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver. She was selected by NASA as a mission specialist in May 2004. She has logged 362 hours in space, most recently as a mission specialist on Mission STS-131 Discovery, a resupply mission to the International Space Station. The Mission STS-131 Discovery launched on April 5 from the Kennedy Space Center and returned to Earth on April 20. Upon arrival at the station, more than 27,000 pounds of hardware, supplies, and equipment were dropped off by Discovery’s crew. These included a tank full of ammonia, a coolant that required three spacewalks to hook up, new crew sleeping quarters, and three experiment racks.

She has taught at WSU Vancouver for 15 years, has published four books, and numerous articles. Mercier has been a guest lecturer in venues from the Ukraine to Japan. 1928 as Chair of the Department of History and Political

Clark Public Utilities receives national recognition Clark Public Utilities is one of 94 of the nation’s more than 2,000 public power utilities to earn Reliable Public Power Provider recognition from the American Public Power Association. The RP3 recognition goes to utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key areas: reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. Clark’s recognition came at the platinum level, the first such designation granted to a utility in Washington state. RP3 is a registered service mark of the American Public Power Association. "About 350 Clark Public Utilities employees work hard to be sure that when our customers flip the switch, the electricity comes on and stays on," said Nancy Barnes, president of the utility’s board of commissioners when the award was announced Thursday. "These employees were rewarded with the RP3 designation, which is much-appreciated recognition of this hard work." Clark Public Utilities is a customer-owned public utility district that provides electric service to more than 183,000 customers throughout Clark County. The utility also provides water service to about 30,000 homes and businesses in the Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, Lakeshore, Hockinson, Brush Prairie, La Center, Meadow Glade, Amboy and Yacolt areas.
