Symphony fundraising up to $17,500

Harris Dusenbery

Two donations received on Friday put the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra less than $3,000 away from its $20,000 fundraising goal.

Longtime supporter of the symphony, Harris Dusenbery, donated $7,500 with the caveat that the amount must be matched by other contributions. RealVest Corporation was the first to rise to the challenge with a $5,000 donation.

The Save the Music campaign ends on April 30 with the goal of raising the $20,000 needed to preserve the May 29 and 30 concerts.

Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center Named Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

The American College of Radiology (ACR) has designated Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. The ACR has fully accredited Legacy Salmon Creek in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasonography, making it the only medical center with the “Center of Excellence” designation in Southwest Washington.

Certified staff and radiologists perform about 3,000 mammograms, stereotactic biopsies, and ultrasound-guided breast biopsies a year at Legacy Salmon Creek.

“Excellent care is our primary goal at Legacy, and this accreditation reaffirms our commitment to that goal,” said Dr. Gary Sahlstrom, Radiology Medical Director at Legacy Salmon Creek. “And while we are proud to reach this benchmark, our real goal, every day, is to deliver the highest quality of care to our patients. This lets us know we are on that path.”

Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined the Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

The 32,000 members of the American College of Radiology include radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, interventional radiologists and nuclear medicine physicians. For more than 75 years, the ACR has devoted its resources to making imaging safe, effective and accessible to those who need it.

Go to www.legacyhealth.org/breasthealthcenters for more information or call (360) 487-1800 to schedule an appointment.

Clark County Historical Museum wins two state awards

The Clark County Historical Museum has received two awards from the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation. There were only 13 honors given out throughout the state.

The Artifact Detectives program developed by Susan Tissot, museum director, was singled out in the Outstanding Achievement in Preservation Education category. The program focused on artifacts discovered during construction of the Vancouver Convention Center and Hilton Hotel.

In the same category, the museum's passport game called "Mr. Carnegie's Grand Tour of Washington," was recognized. The game was designed to introduce state residents to the libraries around the state established by Andrew Carnegie.

The museum's annual fundraiser, Chocolate Extravaganza, is planned at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 22.
