Health care providers return to Rebound from overseas missions Dr. Alan Newman and Bonnie Rosenfeld, a physician assistant, took some time off from duties at Rebound, an orthopedic and neurosurgery clinic, to participate in medical missions. Newman ventured to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. While there, he performed the first arthroscopic surgery ever at the MCM Center. Rosenfeld traveled to the Alta Verapaz region of Guatemala and was one of the first medical providers to visit the mountainous region of the Central American country. Newman provided training to local doctors while in the East African nation. This allowed them to be, “more self-sufficient and [to] provide better care for their own community,” he said. Rosenfeld’s January trip with Medical Teams International was the realization of a dream that began 11 years ago when she first joined Rebound. Her team treated 1,300 patients, indigenous people who had never received medical care. “Being part of this medical team was an incredible opportunity and adventure,” Rosenfeld said. “The people we cared for were proud and hard-working, yet have so little. They were so happy and grateful to our medical team that each day they would prepare an elaborate, authentic Guatemalan meal for us.” Rosenfeld is now hooked and hopes to go to Haiti next year. Rebound has offices throughout the Portland-Vancouver metro area.
