Ciraulo seeking third term
Battle Ground mayor Mike Ciraulo has announced he is a candidate for a third term on the Battle Ground City Council. Ciraulo, 44, has served six years as a council member and since 2008 has served in the council-elected position as mayor. Ciraulo also works as a division chief for Clark County Fire & Rescue. He a member of the State Fire Protection Policy Board, the Special License Plate Commission. He currently serves on the board of directors for the North County Community Food Bank, the steering committee for Loaves & Fishes, the Clark County Urban Policy Board, the Wastewater Management Advisory Board, the North County Leadership Group, and the Clark County Community Action Advisory Board. Ciraulo and his wife, Gilda, were recognized as the “2007 Battle Ground Citizens of the Year.” Mike Ciraulo was awarded the YWCA Val Joshua racial justice award for his work with the Battle Ground Cultural Task Force.
Bart Hansen to run Vancouver native Bart Hansen today announced he is a candidate for the Vancouver City Council city council, Position 1, currently held by Pat Jollota, who has said she is retiring at the end of the year. Hansen, a graduate of Clark College and Washington State University, is attending Marylhurst University. Hansen has 10 years' experience in public administration and currently is an office services manager at Clark Public Utilities. Former Vancouver council member Jack Burkman earlier announced he is a candidate for Jollota's post. Home & Garden Idea Clark Public Utilities’ 18th annual Home & Garden Idea Fair is expected to be the biggest and best ever, according to Heather Allmain, coordinator for the three-day event at the Clark County fairgrounds Friday through Sunday, April 24-26. This year, landscape exhibits have been moved to the exposition center, and the number has increased from 8 to 12. Plant sales have also been moved to the main fair commercial exhibit spaces. Commercial exhibits are already sold out, according to Allmain. Admission to the fair is free, but there is a $5 per vehicle parking charge. C-TRAN will be providing bus service. Community The Friends of Three Creeks Community will hold a used book sale Saturday, April 25, in the community room of the library. Over 10,000 books will be available for purchase, including a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books. Doors open at 8:00 a.m. for members, 10:00 a.m. . for non-members. Closing time is 5 p.m. Hardcover books sell for $1.00; paperbacks, fifty cents. Proceeds of the sale help support special library purchases and programming, such as the Summer Reading Program.
