Lisa Schmidt named
to Community
Lisa Schmidt, Nutter Corporation, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Community Housing Resource Center. She is responsible for development and marketing at Nutter. The Community Housing Resource Center promotes housing stability and greater financial access for families seeking homes, whether renting or owning. The center provides credit repair, pre-purchase education, foreclosure education and one-on-one counseling, among other services. It is approved by the Washington Department of Financial Institutions. Schmidt is a graduate of Southern Indiana University and holds a masters degree from Purdue University. She is a member of the American Marketing Association, Service Marketing Professional Society, and the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation. She is a member of the Clark County Solid Waste Advisory Commission and a facilitator for Women's Justice Circles, which focuses on housing circles. Schmidt also is a member of the Archdiocese of Seattle's Women's Commission. Dubrovnik Symphony tonight Making its first appearance in the Pacific Northwest, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra entertains this evening with the Bravo! Vancouver Chorale in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 S Andresen Road. The concert, made possible through Bravo! Vancouver, is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and available at the door. The Croatian symphony continues its tour to Olympia, Vancouver and Edmonds later this week. Clark College begins a 75-hour The first 75 hours of Clark College’s 75th anniversary begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Oct. 1, in offices and classrooms in campuses at Vancouver, with the happy birthday song. The college’s iconic chime tower on the main campus will toll Happy Birthday on the hour. The Ellis F. Dunn Community Room will be dedicated at 2 p.m. The community room in Gaiser Hall is named for Dunn, who for 30 years was associated with the college and served as interim president. Campus tours will be conducted from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday activities culminate at 7 p.m. with a welcoming program and lighting of the chime tower, a gift from the Clark College Alumni Association. The initial anniversary activities conclude Sunday. Clark College, originally called Vancouver Community College, was founded in 1933 with no more than a handful of students. This fall the community college welcomed more than 12,000 students. Mike Ciraulo and
Windermere/Crest Battle Ground mayor Mike Ciraulo, and the employees of Windermere/Crest Realty in Camas, have received Community Partner Awards from Loaves & Fishes Centers, The Meals-On-Wheels People. Ciraulo, who serves on the steering committee for the Battle Ground Loaves & Fishes Center, helped develop the new community center with the City of Battle Ground. Battle Ground Loaves & Fishes Center, in the city's community center, opens in October, when it will begin serving meals to seniors five days each week. The employees of Windermere/Crest Realty have been volunteering for the Camas-Washougal Loaves & Fishes Center for more than a year, regularly delivering Meals-On-Wheels for the center. Recently 16 of their staff members delivered all of the routes on one day in eastern Clark County. Loaves & Fishes Centers, formed in 1970, provides services to seniors throughout Multnomah, Washington and Clark Counties. People Stephen Rainey, Vancouver, has been reappointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire to a five-year term on the board of trustees of the State School for the Blind of Vancouver. Rainey is an engineer at GEI Consultants. <> Former 49th District State Sen. Don Carlson, who now lives in Olympia, has been appointed to a five-year term on the state Select Committee on Pension Policy by Gov. Gregoire. Carlson is a lobbyist for the Washington State School Retirees’ Association. Calendar The film A Family Gathering is being presented free at 4 p.m. today, in room 110 of the Administration Building at Washington State University Vancouver. The presentation is part of WSU Vancouver's Diversity Film Festival, which continues through October 14. <> Clark County commissioners meet in an informal session in conference room B in the Public Service Center at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1. This is a time that citizens may bring up community issues informally.
