Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to
headline July
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., senior attorney for the National Resources Defense Council, is the headline speaker for the three-day Southwest Washington Sustainability Conference and Trade Show in the Hilton Vancouver Washington, Thursday through Saturday, July 10-12. Vancouver mayor Royce Pollard and Clark County commissioner Steve Stuart say that the conference is expected to inspire people to achieve higher levels of stewardship and ecological, economic and social success. The conference is sponsored by the city and county, along with other agencies and partners. Cost of the conference is $275 per person if tickets are bought before June 15, after which tickets are $325 each. However, a limited number of tickets for Kennedy’s speech will be available for $25 each. Kennedy was named one of Time magazine’s Heroes for the Planet for his success in helping Riverkeeper lead the fight to restore the Hudson River, an achievement that helped spawn more than 160 waterkeeper organizations throughout the world. A best selling author, Kennedy is co-host of Ring of Fire, broadcast on Air America Radio, and is a clinical professor and supervising attorney at Pace University School of Law’s Environmental Litigation Clinic. Other conference speakers are Joe Van Belleghem, partner in Windmill Developments, and Sonia Shah, investigative reporter and critically acclaimed author. VaNessa Duplessie to run for
VaNessa Duplessie, La Center, has announced she will run as a Democrat for the 18th District state representative position held by Republican Jamie Herrera. Duplessie is a graduate of San Francisco State University and is a Vancouver Gen. George C. Marshall Leadership Award winner. A technology analyst, Duplessie is manager of analysis and public relations for the software company, Bocada. Herrera, who completed her first state legislative session this winter, was appointed to the position in 2007, following the resignation of Richard Curtis. Kathy Condon signing book on
Kathy Condon, Vancouver-based international speaker, trainer and executive coach will be signing her new book, It Doesn't Hurt to Ask: It's All About Communication, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. this evening in the North Wynd Condos clubhouse, 1899 SE Spinnaker Street at Columbia Shores Way. The book, a communications tool for seasoned professionals as well as for those just starting out in the business world, is self-published. Copies of the $13.95 business communications book will be on sale this evening and will be available through Amazon Books and Barnes and Noble beginning Tuesday, April 1. Jim Brekke appointed senior vp

Jim Brekke has been appointed senior vice president and chief credit officer for Columbia Credit Union, reports credit union CEO Parker Cann. Brekke will oversee the loan and collection departments at the credit union. Most recently Brekke, who has 34 years’ experience in banking, was a senior vice president and regional credit administrator for a Boise national bank. Brekke is an honors graduate of the Western Agricultural Credit School at Washington State University. Brekke is a member of the Lions Club, Rotary and the Boise Chamber of Commerce. People Washougal High School’s Rhea Bohlin has been named to receive the Washington State Classified Excellence Employee Award, according to Washougal School District assistant superintendent, Rebecca Miner. Bohlin is a specialist working with the highly capable studies program. Bohlin is also chair of the Parent Advisors Committee for highly capable students. Awards ceremonies begin about 1:30 p.m. in the school.
